Actually Bob, the city has been the most thinly staffed in the US for more than a decade—well before I came into office. To the contrary, our ability to resolve the chronic budgetary shortfalls has enabled us to finally begin to restore basic services, eg, expanding SJPD by more than 230 officers. With regard to the food, internet connectivity, and other emergency services we provided during the pandemic, we used federal pandemic dollars for those tasks, and no, the county was not willing to take on those tasks (particularly as they were overwhelmed responding to a pandemic).
